Camp Sunshine – for Kids Entering Grades K-6
Camp Sunshine campers swim in the Mineral Hotel pool, have fun and make new friends as they learn and practice the basic skills of systems thinking through play and experimentation. Children and relatives of Camp Snowball participants are invited to attend, along with local kids from the Crystal Springs area. Camp Sunshine runs parallel to the Camp Snowball program in time and location.
Camp Sunshine is an exciting program for young learners that’s run in conjunction with Camp Snowball. Through four (or five) days of specially designed hands-on, camp activities, students experience the tools of systems thinking and education for sustainability—key skills for tomorrow’s leaders. Led by certified teachers, students gain new abilities in an informal way.
Taking advantage of the surroundings that New Jersey and the Minerals Hotel offer, kids explore natural and human systems through games and experiments.
- investigate the interconnections between the different parts of systems.
- notice patterns over time.
- figure out how those systems can be changed.
- discover the unintended consequences of their actions.
And, they can practice their new learnings in fun adventures throughout the week. The week’s schedule also includes arts and crafts and swimming. Through activities that foster cooperation and teamwork, kids develop lasting friendships. At the same time, they can try out new skills they can use in all aspects of their lives.
It’s never too early for kids to start preparing for the opportunities that lie ahead.
